House of the Dragon star Emily Carey had to take a break from social media — even before the show premiered.

The 19-year-old actor, who plays a young Lady Alicent Hightower on the show, says that the comments she got following Comic-Con were so intense, she had to delete her Twitter.

Back in July, Emily spoke about her character at the event, revealing that she had helped the show runners come up with some of her backstory.

They explained that the whole process gave them a “deeper understanding of Alicent,” and made them realize that the character wasn’t completely a villain.

“I think lots of people are already expecting her to be the villain of the show, but I think bringing her in younger, there was a lot more to explore,” Emily said on stage.

After receiving backlash from Game of Thrones fans about her perception of the character, author George R.R. Martin shared his support for Emily’s comments — but that didn’t stop fans from sending her hate.

Emily says that they eventually had to delete their account in order to get away from the noise.

“I love social media. I’m 19, so I’m all on social media, and I’ve been on social media since I was a kid because I’ve worked since I was a kid, so I’m very conscious of things,” Emily said in an interview with News.com.au.

They continued, “Any hate that comes in, it’s just…it’s a person behind a screen. You just have to move on from it.”

But despite her positive outlook about haters, Emily says things got so bad, she decided it was in her best interest to step away.

“I will say I did delete Twitter [after Comic-Con] because it’s just so loud. Even when it’s good, there’s so many, and it’s so loud,” Emily shared.

And while they say they “love the buzz,” they “transparently” admit that “sometimes it can be overwhelming.”

As of now, Emily has returned to Twitter — and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that she gets nothing but support after last night’s premiere!
